The single most common complaint about in-office teeth whitening is that fact that many, if not most other teeth whitening systems can cause moderate to severe sensitivity in the teeth and gums. Although this is usually just temporary, it can still be painful.

The take home kit’s chemical composition is comprised of carbamide peroxide and is about ⅓ the strength of our hydrogen peroxide in-office whitening formula.

How does teeth whitening work?

Once the hydrogen peroxide is exposed to the teeth and accelerated with our Sapphire Supreme plasma arc whitening light, it forms oxygen bubbles that enter the microscopic pores of your teeth. These oxygen bubbles remove some of the surface (extrinsic) staining on each tooth to lighten and brighten your teeth. Surface staining can be caused by a variety of factors, such as the consumption of cigarettes, coffee, tea, and other dark liquids and foods.

Unfortunately, there is no way to determine exactly how white your teeth will get after treatment, because everyone has different body chemistry and consumption habits.

Some of our patients were prescribed with certain antibiotics in their youth, such as tetracycline, which left dark staining on their teeth. These stains are inside of the teeth (intrinsic) and are more difficult to lighten by teeth whitening alone.
