Sealants
What are Sealants?
- Light-cured, plastic coating painted on the chewing surfaces of the tooth
- Acts as a barrier between harmful, cavity-causing bacteria and the tooth’s grooves
- Quickly and painlessly applied, no shots required
- Highly recommended for children as well as adults
- Typically applied to molars where tooth decay is the most prevalent
- Many dental insurance companies will pay for sealants for children
- Awesome preventative option for adults who get cavities easily
- Generally last about 5 years
“Dental sealants, for children and adults alike, are one of the best preventative measures one can take against tooth decay. They are especially beneficial for people that are prone to decay, and can inhibit cavities from forming on certain parts of the tooth. Sealants aren’t just for children anymore, many of my adult patients are also realizing the benefits of dental sealants.”
